Welcome! Self Start Your Life is about helping you get from where you are to where you want to be. No matter what your desire is, all personal growth involves the same elements:

  • thoughts
  • behaviors
  • emotions

Thoughts: the meaning or beliefs you give the words and images you think

Behaviors: your actions and the reason for them

Emotions: your current indication of what you are feeling

Right now, the consistency of your current thoughts, actions, and feelings are a direct relation to your life experience. They represent the quality of your life. If you want your life to improve, then all three of those will need to change.

The Process of Self-Improvement

Understanding this will save you a lot of time and aggravation – self-improvement is a process. If you can’t accept that, and ultimately enjoy that, then the change you seek is going to be a rough ride.

Everything is in a continual state of becoming. Even if it becomes the same thing, it is still following a process. Most people want or expect change without the process. Those people usually repeat the same thoughts, actions, and emotions and wonder why they’re stuck? That was me for over a decade -stuck in life.


Before you can experience change, you must have a desire for it. This part is fairly easy for most. Things are happening in your life which stimulates a desire to keep going or change. This is based on how you feel, your emotions. We don’t like things we think about or see because they don’t make us feel good. So, we want something else. This is the start of the process, wanting or desiring.


Now it’s certain you want to change for the better. Excellent! So, are you willing to make the needed changes in order to experience your new desire? A simple way to tell if you are at your breaking point (break from your old self/story) is to ask yourself, Do I still care what people think about me?

If you still do, then you might not be ready. You probably don’t want the change bad enough and aren’t ready to replace your old ways.

If you don’t care what other people think or say about you, then, you now have put yourself first and are ready for a change; a new story in your life. Being ready is the last part of the beginning process.


Being ready simply means you are ready to replace old ways in exchange for new ways. New ways of thinking, feeling, acting and, thus, experiencing your life. There are many ways to go about this; from all types of therapy, life coaches, activities, workshops, etc.

The important thing is to do what works for you. What makes you happy and leads you to the results you desire. This is where not caring what other people think about you is important. This doesn’t mean you become cold and bitter. You are still open, but you are more selective with what you let in.


You’re probably familiar with the expression, ready, willing and able. And able is not a part I included in the beginning process. The reason is, you already have the ability to create positive change in your life. So the question is not answering, Are you able? It’s answering, Why do I think I am not able?

The answer is in replacing that belief. It’s likely that belief is tied to what someone else thinks about you. You’re not living their life. This is yours! Own it. Cherish it. Live it.

Who am I?

My name is Ryan Naylor. I am not a therapist or life coach of any kind. Self-improvement and spirituality have been a main interest of mine most of my life. I started Self Start Your Life as a way to improve my life. In that sense, it is a personal blog.

The bigger vision for Self Start Your Life is to become an effective source for personal development. That may be through books, courses, games or a variety of other avenues.

What can you expect to find?

Topics will include spirituality, *science/research, and personal thoughts. The intent is to help you see a new perspective and perhaps apply in your life. Much of it will likely be about the changes you need to make internally, rather than externally.

*Science is great. It provides valuable information in all areas. While using it to help your life, keep in mind that it too, is in a process of change. Meaning, the results of today can be different tomorrow. In the end, use what works for you.
